Julián Montoya was a try scorer on Saturday. The Argentine hooker touched down for the Leicester Tigers in their home victory over Midlands rivals the Wasps. The try was Montoya’s third in quick time. He joined Leicester earlier this year.
The Pumas’ try was what is now a trademark Montoya score. It was from an attacking lineout. Montoya threw to the back and attached to the rolling maul that formed. He got control of the ball at the back and made his way forward and over.
Th 47th minute try was the second of four tries by the Tigers. Montoya was one of three Pumas starting for the team. Tomás Lavanini played second-row and Matías Moroni was outside center. Lavanini played very well; he was involved in the lad-up to multiple tries. Moroni put in a try-saving tackle on winger Zach Kibirige.
Lavanini was the victim of a shoulder to the head. The offender was red carded. It was one of three red cards in the match.
Saturday’s win moves the Leicester Tigers to 7th position. The club is just a single point behind the Newcastle Falcons. After 10 rounds the Leicester Tigers remain in range for the play-off’s.
