ARN Player of the Week – Benjamín Urdapilleta

As with last week there was a mix of European club action with international rugby limited to the Six Nations. We are inching ever close to the return of professional rugby in the Americas, now just a little over a month away from the Major League Rugby season and the Súper Liga de Americana likely starting around the same time.

On another week the two-try effort from Gloucester’s Santiago Carreras might have been enough to get the nod, but as we will soon see this was no ordinary week. Lucas Paulos also celebrated his first scores in European rugby, and there were several candidates from Exeter such as Kate Zackary, Olivia DeMerchant, and even super-sub Rachel Johnson.

The fix was in from the start, however, and nobody stood a chance after Benjamín Urdapilleta’s exploits for Castres. His sensational 33-point display against Montpellier included two tries and nine successful kicks at goal, setting a new Top 14 record along the way. When the short list for individual performance of the year gets drafted, this will be near the very top.
