Seawolves sign Super Rugby lock Rhyno Herbst from Lions

The Seattle Seawolves have confirmed the signing of Rhyno Herbst for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. He joins fellow South African lock FP Pelser in the Pacific Northwest, arriving from his native Johannesburg with four years of professional experience despite being just 24 years old.

Injury denied Herbst the opportunity to represent South Africa at the 2016 Junior World Championship, but he recovered to make his senior Currie Cup debut a year later. After earning a starting role with the Lions he made the jump to Super Rugby in 2019. The 2020 campaign would be suspended before Herbst was able to recover from off-season shoulder surgery.

Along with Pelser, the Seawolves also boast returning players Brad Tucker and Taylor Krumrei in a strong second row stable. Tucker could find himself on the blindside flank, though the club also has former Eagles star Andrew Durutalo and club stalwart Eric Duechle on their books.
