After selecting his rights with the second overall pick in the supplementary draft, the Houston SaberCats have confirmed the signing of Dallas Jackals signing Kody O’Neil for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. He provides vital strength in the second row following the pandemic-enforced opt-outs of Kyle Breytenbach and Jérémy Lenaerts.
O’Neil was quickly snapped up by Dallas in June of last year following the dissolution of the Colorado Raptors. The 27-year-old had been an integral member of the Raptors since their inaugural 2018 campaign, playing 25 matches with 12 starts.
Houston can now breathe a little easier with O’Neil joining Fijian arrival Apisai Tauyavuca as second row specialists. US-eligible Van Stewart is also on the books as a lock or loose forward, with Uruguay’s Diego Magno and new signing Bronson Teles capable of providing cover.
