San Diego adds former Raptors scrumhalf Carlo de Nysschen

The San Diego Legion now have a second scrumhalf on their roster for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. Carlo de Nysschen has signed on after being selected from the Dallas Jackals in the supplementary dispersal draft.

de Nysshen had originally been signed by Dallas from the Colorado Raptors. The 24-year-old is from Bloemfontein, South Africa, but is now Eagles-qualified on residency having moved to the USA in 2017 to join the Raptors academy. He had previously played for the age grade sides of the Bulls and Cheetahs.

It’s an important capture for San Diego, who were down to just Nate Augspurger at the No9 spot following the departure of Devereaux Ferris to the Seattle Seawolves. While initially a backup to Shaun Davies at Glendale, de Nysschen started three of five games for the Raptors in 2020.
