Leicester Tigers win big with Julián Montoya double

The Leicester Tigers had a big home victory on Saturday. The 41-24 win over the Worcester Warriors included a double to Argentina’s Julián Montoya. The Pumas hooker scored in the 9th and 64th minutes.

Both tries came from attacking lineouts. On both occasions, like Agustín Creevy did for London Irish vs Gloucester, Montoya threw to the middle and attached to the back of a maul.

For the first try, Worcester were unable to contain the drive as Montoya touched down. Tomás Lavanini was central to the drive forward. The second again saw Montoya attaching to a rolling-maul. Lavanini was again one of two forwards central to the drive ahead of the hooker.

Montoya was one of three Pumas starting for the Leicester Tigers. Lavanini played in the second-row and Matías Moroni at outside center. The trio all put in high workloads for the Tigers.

The bonus point victory sees the Leicester Tiers rising in the standings. After 8 rounds of the 2020-2021 season the Tigers occupy 8th position. Worcester are off the pace in 11th. The Warriors are just one point above basement side Gloucester.

Leicester play away to the Harlequins next weekend. The match could well see six former Jaguares involved. Joaquín Cruz Bonilla could join Lavanini, Montoya and Moroni. Martín Landajo and Santiago García Botta play for the Harlequins.
