Bautista Güemes had a strong performance today. The Argentine fly half scored 15 points as Spain downed Portugal 25-11 in Madrid. The win sees Spain finish the 2020 Rugby Europe Championship in second position. The undefeated Georgia were crowned champions.
Güemes was appearing in his second test match for Spain. The 30-year-old from Buenos Aires made his test debut against Uruguay in November 2020. He scored eight points on debut, doing so at inside center. A minor injury saw him miss the second test against Los Teros.
The fly half from Buenos Aires’ CUBA club toughest down for a second half try against Portugal. He converted his own try and he also landed two penalties.
Today’s match marked the test debut of another Argentine player. Former Pumitas No8 Facundo Domínguez was a replacement for Los Leones. The Spanish roster contains four additional Argentine players. They are Joaquín Domínguez, Juan Pablo Guido, Federico Casteglioni, and Fernando López.
