San Diego signs Irish prop Cronan Gleeson from ATL

The San Diego Legion have announced the signing of prop Cronan Gleeson for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. It’s a coastal change for the 27-year-old Irishman, as he makes the switch from Rugby ATL for whom he played four games in 2020.

Capable of playing either side of the scrum, it’s at tighthead where Gleeson featured for ATL and will again for the Legion. Earning a starting spot may not be easy however with Super Rugby veteran Hencus van Wyk also arriving in San Diego and Aaron Mitchell a previously confirmed returnee.

The Legion now have six props signed up for 2021 including loosehead trio Luatangi Li, Faka’osi Pifeleti, and Nathan Sylvia. Last season’s pair of Dean Muir and Peter Malcolm return at hooker. A third specialist rake has yet to be announced.
