Evan Olmstead sidelined until at least April through injury

Evan Olmstead is sidelined until at least April with an ankle injury. The Canadian second-rower was hurt in Biarritz’s win over Montauban in January. Assessments from the medical staff have concluded that he will need at last three months to recover.

It’s a savage blow to the promotion plans of Biarritz, for whom Olmstead has been a key figure this season. With the 29-year-old in the starting lineup the team is 10 wins with 1 loss and 1 draw. Without him they have won just once in five games.

Canada will be looking for Olmstead to again be a team leader following his performance at RWC 2019. This year sees Canada vs the USA in the all-important RWC 2023 qualifiers. The winner will face the South American winner to determine who qualifies for RWC 2023 as Americas 1.
