Peñarol sign Facundo Pomponio from Ciencias Sevilla

Peñarol have signed Facundo Pomponio. He joins the Uruguayan team for the 2021 Súper Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR) season. The moves sees him bak in South America from Spain.

Facundo Pomponio played for the Olímpia Lions in the 2020 SLAR season. The Argentine thereby continues his professional career which has seen him playing in France, Paraguay, and Spain.

The 28-year-old Pomponio is a tighthead prop. He was the starting No3 for the Olímpia Lions against Los Ceibos in their first and only SLAR match in 2020.

Pomponio comes from Comercial Rugby Club in Mar del Plata. Due to his prior involvement with Liceo Francés and Lexus Alcobendas he already has a name for himself in Spanish rugby circles. He also previously played in the French Pro D2 for RC Vannes.

Weighing 120kg (265lbs) and standing at 1.88m (6’2″) Pomponio is a large athlete. He is a notable performer in the set piece areas and is also a strong ball carrier.
