Austin signs Super Rugby veteran Hugh Roach

The Austin Gilgronis have signed Australian hooker Hugh Roach for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. Despite being just 28 years old he boasts seven Super Rugby campaigns as well as Shute Shield, National Rugby Championship, and Mitre 10 Cup experience.

Roach represented Australia at two Junior World Championships before joining the Waratahs in 2014. He would spend five years with the team before signing for the Melbourne Rebels in 2019. A brief stop with the Crusaders in New Zealand came last year before the pandemic struck.

Austin now have three specialist hookers signed up including fellow Super Rugby veteran Robbie Coetzee and MLR Collegiate Draft pick Mason Koch. Also capable of covering is returning front rower Brendan Rams who is comfortable at both hooker and tighthead prop.
