Big win for Olmstead’s Biarritz over Montauban

Biarritz Olympique kept their promotion hopes intact with a 31-3 demolition of Montauban at Parc d’Aguilera on Saturday. Canada’s Evan Olmstead was again a top contributor with another 80 minute performance in a dominant BOPB forward effort.

The result was very different to that of the first meeting between the two clubs this season a 33-30 win for Montauban at home in Week Two. On that day fellow Canadian international Matt Beukeboom started in the second row for the winners but he has not appeared in the new year and is set to depart the club at season’s end.

Olmstead missed the first match again Montauban, and in fact the club’s record in the four games he has not featured is one draw and three defeats. By contrast with Olmstead in the No5 shirt the team has 10 wins, one draw, and only one defeat.

With Vannes claiming a bonus point win on the road earlier today Biarritz remain in third spot. They trail second-place Vannes by 9 points and table-toppers Perpignan by 12, though BOPB have one game at hand on both with 14 games remaining to make up the difference.
