Seawolves confirm return of captain Riekert Hattingh

Riekert Hattingh will play for the Seattle Seawolves in the 2021 Major League Rugby season. Confirmation comes at last of the team captain and star eightman who has been a talismanic figure for the club since the inaugural 2018 campaign.

This past season, though brief, was one of frustration for Hattingh. The 26-year-old was in fine individual form with a league-leading five tries in five games, but the two-time defending champions would set at 10th overall when the season was suspended.

Originally from South Africa, Hattingh qualifies for the USA on residency and was named on the 2019 World Cup long-list though he ultimately did not travel to Japan. An Eagles debut could come in 2021 though Rugby ATL’s Ross Deacon and twice-capped Old Glory starter Jamason Fa’anana-Schultz are also lined up behind incumbent Cam Dolan from the NOLA Gold.
