Toulouse sign Juan Cruz Mallía from Jaguares

Toulouse have signed Juan Cruz Mallía from Los Jaguares. The 24-year-old joins the French giants as a medical joker. The move will be Mallía’s first overseas contract. He joins after featuring for Los Jaguares in Super Rugby from 2018-2020.

Toulouse have lost Romain Ntamack, Lucas Tauzin and Arthur Bonneval to injuries. In addition, game time for Pita Ahki is uncertain and Thomas Ramos will be unavailable for extended periods playing for France in the 2021 Six Nations.

Mallía’s usual position is outside center and that is where he started against New Zealand in the Tri Nations and against the USA at RWC 2019. He won Man of the Match against the USA, recording 157 meters carried with two tries and two try assists.

A versatile backfielder, Mallía has also played fullback and wing for Los Jaguares and even fly half for the Argentina XV. He moves to France with six test caps to his name, a product of Córdoba’s Jockey Club and a former Argentine u20 captain.

Mallía is the fifth Pumas center to depart for Europe this year. The players exodus has seen Jerónimo de la Fuente signing for Perpignan, Lucas Mensa joining Valence Romans, Matías Moroni joining the Leicester Tigers, and Matías Orlando joining the Newcastle Falcons.
