Bay of Plenty flyhalf Dan Hollinshead signs for New York

Rugby United New York have signed Bay of Plenty flyhalf Dan Hollinshead for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The 25-year-old New Zealander recently completed his fifth Mitre 10 Cup campaign with the Steamers, and also boasts professional experience in France and Japan.

Hollinshead made his senior provincial debut as a teenager and was part of the New Zealand u20 training squad. He spent the second half of the 2016-17 Pro D2 season with Agen before a stint with the Coca-Cola Red Sparks in Japan’s Top League. In 2019 Hollinshead made two Super Rugby replacement appearances for the Highlanders.

With former All Blacks No9 Andy Ellis confirmed just two days ago, RUNY will feature an entirely new halfback duo in 2021. Hollinshead replaces the outgoing Cathal Marsh, with the versatile Harry Bennett also providing cover at flyhalf or fullback. Troy Lockyear has played flyhalf at the collegiate level but is earmarked for a midfield spot.
