Thomas Gallo signs long-term extension with Benetton

Thomas Gallo is to remain in the Pro 14. The Argentine prop has signed a three-year-deal with Benetton. It is an extension on his original contract which was for ten months. Gallo arrived in Italy in September 2020 from his native Argentina.

Benetton is home to five Argentine players. Along with Gallo there are is prop Ivan Temer, hooker Tomás Baravalle, and centers Juan Ignacio Brex and Joaquín Riera.

Gallo is eligible to play for Italy. He qualifies on family ancestry and carries an Italian passport. Like the other Argentine players at the club, Gallo was a Pumita. Moreover, both Baravalle and Brex also played for the Argentina XV. The latter subsequently played Sevens for Italy, is now captured by Italy and is a part of the current Italian roster.

The 21-year-old Gallo comes from the Northern Argentine rugby heartland of Tucumán. His try against France in the 2019 Junior World Championship was a global hit on social media.
