Rugby United New York sign World Cup winner Andy Ellis

Rugby United New York have signed World Cup-winning scrumhalf Andy Ellis for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The former All Black brings a wealth of experience with over 150 Super Rugby games and 28 test caps on his resume.

Ellis was an All Black from 2006-2015, and was notably a replacement in the 2011 Cup Final win over France. The 36-year-old spent a decade playing for the Crusaders and his home province Canterbury before signing for Japan Top League side Kobelco Steelers in 2014.

RUNY will look to Ellis to play a mentoring role for young backups Conor McManus and Connor Buckley. The signing confirms the departure of veteran duo Mike Petri and Marcus Walsh who have split time in the No9 shirt over the past two seasons.
