Rugby United New York signs Eagles lock Nick Civetta

US Eagles lock Nick Civetta will join Rugby United New York for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The 31-year-old White Plains native is bound for his home state at the completion of his Oxford University commitments. He is set to play in the postponed Varsity Match, which is now targeted for March though a final date is yet to be confirmed.

Civetta turned down a contract extension with Pro D2 side Vannes to take up the opportunity with Oxford. He has previously played professionally for Newcastle Falcons and Doncaster Knights in England, and Italian clubs Lazio and Viadana.

The 6’8″ (2.03m) set piece specialist gives RUNY three second rows who are of interest to Gary Gold. Civetta’s frequent Eagles lock partner Nate Brakeley is returning as is Charlie Hewitt, the former England u18 select who is now qualified for the USA on residency. Brakeley can also play on the blindside flank as he did against the Free Jacks in the 2020 season opener.
