Cantorna and Tuttosi star as Exeter edge Bristol

Gabby Cantorna and Emily Tuttosi each found the score sheet as Exeter Chiefs edged Bristol bears 31-27 in an exciting contest on Saturday. The pair were among six North Americans who suited up for the winners with a seventh – new arrival Rachel Johnson – left to wait another week before her debut.

Cantorna kicked three conversions for six points but it was her overall play that caught the eye. The USA international is emerging as a bona fide star this season and she delivered once again with several powerful carries at inside center and strong kicking from hand.

A second-half red card to Spanish scrumhalf Patricia García saw Canada’s Taylor Black forced to slip in one halfback spot with Cantorna moving to first receiver. Despite being shorthanded for 25 minutes the duo steered their team to victory.

Tuttosi has set down a challenge to arriving Joanna Kitlinski with a fine performance in the No2 shirt. The hard-running Canuck made two line breaks and scored a vital try. It was just rewards after an accurate lineout throw to the middle jumper set a picture-perfect drive to the line.

Eagles captain Kate Zackary was prominent in a strong Chiefs back row, while Canadian lock McKinley Hunt showed good footwork and leg drive to earn valuable hard yards. Olivia DeMerchant came off the bench and had one driving run through traffic and a couple thumping tackles.
