Selknam re-sign Albornoz, Boronio, and Stavile

Selknam have re-signed three players from the 2020 campaign. The Argentine trio of Albornoz, Boronio, and Stavile will play for the Chilean team in the 2021 Súper Liga Americana de rugby (SLAR).

Argentine site Rugby Champagne reports that the trio are the first faces of the 2021 roster. There were additional Argentine players involved with Selknam in 2020. At present none are reported to be on the roster this year.

Bautista Stavile is a back-rower. He comes from Mendoza RC in neighboring Mendoza. He was a replacement in Selknam’s win over Peñarol in the inaugural SLAR match in 2020. He then started against Los Ceibos ion the second, and final, round match in Santiago.

Both Albornoz and Baronio also received SLAR game time in 2020. The former started against Los Ceibos and was a replacement against Peñarol. The latter started both matches. Baronio comes from Jockey de Rosario. The same club produced Argentina’s starting arum-half for RWC 2011, Nicolás Vergallo.

Selknam will begin training on January 18. The players roster for the 2021 SLAR season will be confirmed prior to that date. Chile Rugby is presently confirming the players. They are doing so on the back of the Super 4 competition.
