SaberCats confirm Taylor Howden for 2021 season

The Houston SaberCats have confirmed the return of versatile midfielder Taylor Howden for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. Doubling as Director of Youth Development for the club, the 34-year-old New Zealander most recently coached the Ohio Aviators at the World Tens Series.

Howden appeared in all five games for Houston in 2020, starting two and scoring one try against Rugby United New York. He covered both flyhalf and inside center, and has previously featured as an outside center in his two prior MLR campaigns with the NOLA Gold.

Previously confirmed by the SaberCats are fellow returning flyhalves Sam Windsor and Kieran Farmer, as well as US-born Argentine pair Thomas Morani and Matías Freyre. The latter also covers fullback, with incoming Robbie Povey capable of playing both flyhalf and fullback. New Zealand-born center Moa Maliepo, capped by Romania, has replaced the departed Tiaan Loots on the roster.
