ARN Player of the Week – AJ MacGinty

It was all Europe over the weekend as we turned over into a new year. Both the English Premiership and French Top 14 were in action as the two leagues look to complete their seasons on tight schedules with no room to spare. There will be more to watch this weekend as the Pro D2 and Premier 15s return.

Consideration was given to Uruguay scrumhalf Santiago Arata who was active for Castres, but he loses points for a bizarre flying challenge on Charlie Ngatai that could easily have resulted in a card. Juan Imhoff played well for Racing 92, and it was tempting to go with Marcos Kremer for another bone-crunching performance for Stade Français against Brive.

No player delivered under pressure like AJ MacGinty. The US Eagles flyhalf has been outstanding for Sale this season, and that continued with a 17-point haul off the kicking tee in the win over Gloucester. Daniel du Preez was a controversial man-of-the-match selection but for many MacGinty was the most influential man on the pitch.
