The Seattle Seawolves continue their players recruitment ahead of the new season. The latest player added to the 2021 roster is Juan Pablo Aguirre. He trades one coast for another as he departs Rugby United New York.
Seattle will be the third Major League Rugby club for Aguirre. The 26-year-old played for Austin Elite during the 2019 campaign and signed for RUNY in 2020. He did not see any game time with the latter, however, being an unused replacement against the Houston SaberCats in his only match day selection of the shortened campaign.
Aguirre is from Buenos Aires, Argentina. He is a product of Champagnat, where he was recognized at a young age. This saw him earning representative honors at u18’s and u20’s. He played for Argentina at the 2013 Junior World Championship.
Moving to the USA to complete his post-secondary studies, Aguirre attended the University of Lindenwood-Belleville and subsequently Lindenwood University in Missouri. There he played for the Lions and was named in the 2018 Collegiate Rugby Championship Dream Team.
His time spent in the USA sees him eligible to play for the USA via residency. The Seawolves are also home to another player from Argentina. Fly half Ben Cima moved to the USA at a young age and now has 10 caps for the Eagles.
