Argentina has named an 18-man roster for the 2021 pre-season. Head Coach Santiago Gómez Cora has included familiar players as well as names from the Argentina XV and one from the 2020 Tri Nations.
Lucio Cinti was an unused replacement in Argentina’s historic win over New Zealand. The 20-year-old is now in Gómez Cora’s plans for the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games.
Los Pumas 7’s’ infield preparations will begin in February. Argentina will compete next month in Madrid, Spain. It will be the first opportunity of the year and follows December’s South American 7’s tournament in Valparaíso, Chile.
Los Pumas 7’s were champions in Chile, though the team suffered an upset loss to Brazil on day one. The roster to start the year sees no place for Tomás Acosta Pimentel, Matías Carreras, Gerónimo Prisciantelli, Máximo Provenzano, and Julián Quetglas.
Cinti is one instance of a returning player to boost the roster. Another is Ignacio Mendy. The 20-year-old is the son of Christian Mendy, the try scorer in Argentina’s 1987 win over Australia. Ignacio Mendy has demonstrated his potential at u20’s level. His Pumitas teammate, Mateo Carreras has since moved to England to join the Newcastle Falcons.
