Stephan Coetzee will return for a third season with the Seattle Seawolves. The two-time champions have confirmed the South African, who celebrates his 29th birthday in early January, for the 2021 Major League Rugby campaign. He follows fellow hooker Mike Shepherd in extending his stay.
Coetzee quickly established himself as the first choice No2 for the Seawolves upon arriving prior to the 2019 season. He played every game that year and helped Seattle to their second MLR Shield title. This past season he played three of fives games, missing the first two with injury.
With training camps set to formally begin in a little over a month’s time, the Seawolves have announced just 16 players for the upcoming season. It’s the lowest total of the league’s 13 teams for 2021, and the team has yet to confirm any new signings apart from draft picks Aaron Matthews and Nick Taylor.
