Rodrigo Bruni has signed with French Pro D2 club Vannes for the remainder of the 2020-2021 season, with an option to extend for a second year. He is the latest Argentinean star to opt for a move overseas following the exit of Los Jaguares from Super Rugby.
The 27-year-old No8 impressed during the recent Rugby Championship, starting in the historic win over New Zealand and both draws against Australia. Bruni’s form pushed Toulon powerhouse Facundo Isa to the flank and left World Cup incumbent Javier Ortega Desio out in the cold entirely.
In fact Bruni’s signing for a second division club comes as something of a surprise given his international standing. Vannes, however, are among the best teams in the Pro D2 and are currently just one point behind leaders Perpignan – the new club of Jerónimo de la Fuente – at the top of the table.
Bruni is something of a late bloomer having only debuted for Los Pumas in 2018. He worked worked his way to Argentina XV honors with his home club San Luis. Similar to Isa in stature, Bruni is also noted for his powerful ball carrying but is also a capable link man with strong passing skills and decision making.
