ARN Player of the Week – Santiago Cordero

We’ve almost put a wrap on a difficult and frustrating 2020, but there were still some rugby games to keep an eye on this past weekend. Americas players were busy in Europe with the Champions Cup, Challenge Cup, Pro D2, and Premier 15s all underway. So too the Currie Cup in South Africa.

The latter saw Ruben de Haas playing 65 minutes in his first start for the Cheetahs, who defeated the Pumas in a hard-fought contest. Evan Olmstead helped Biarritz grab a difficult road win over Grenoble, and Agustín Creevy had a strong game for London Irish in the victory over Pau.

North America’s finest continue to make a big impact in the Premier 15s. McKinley Hunt, Kate Zackary, and Gabby Cantorna all found the score sheet as Exeter came away with a dominant win over Durham Sharks. Meanwhile Sophie de Goede was unlucky not to receive Player of the Match honors for an outstanding individual effort that included a try in the win over Loughborough.

Our selection comes from France this week. Bordeaux had their way with the Dragons in the second round of the Champions Cup, with Santiago Cordero contributing three tries in a masterful performance. His 13 carries and 136 meters gained earned the official Star of the Match recognition and there are no arguments against from our perspective.
