Racing 92 sign Emiliano Boffelli from Jaguares

Racing 92 have signed Emiliano Boffelli from Los Jaguares. It sees Argentina’s 2020 player exodus continuing. The move also comes shortly after Bordeaux signed fellow Jaguares outside back, Bautista Delguy from Los Jaguares.

Racing 92 will be home to two players from Rosario club Duendes: Juan Imhoff and Emiliano Boffelli. The players know each other very well and will now play together professionally for the first time. Both Imhoff and Boffelli featured in the recent Tri Nations. Imhoff started the first two matches while Boffelli featured in game’s two, three and four.

Boffelli moves to France at the age of 25. He does so with 31 test caps to his name and five seasons of Super Rugby for Los Jaguares. Boffelli has features for Los Jaguares and Los Pumas at fullback and on the wing.

Injury saw him miss the 2016 test season; his test debut was delayed until June 2017. He was nominated by World Rugby for the Breakout Player of the Year award. It came with him playing eleven test matches for Argentina that year. Ten were on the wing and one was at fullback.

The arrival of Mario Ledesma first for Jaguares and second for Los Pumas saw Boffelli moved to fullback permanently. He started all twelve tests for Argentina at fullback that year. These included Argentina’s win over South Africa in Mendoza and over Australia on the Gold Coast. He also faced France for the first time, starting at fullback in a loss in the northern city of Lille.

Boffelli continued at fullback in 2019; this was the case under both Gonzalo Quesada for Los Jaguares and under Ledesma for Los Pumas. His strong season of Super Rugby included a try in the Semi Final win over the Brumbies in Buenos Aires. He was Argentina’s starting fullback at RWC 2019.

In 2020 Quesada moved Boffelli to the left wing. He did so with Santiago Carreras starting at fullback. The move was successful and was also put to use by Ledesma. Boffelli replaced an injured Imhoff on the wing against Australia in Newcastle. He then started at fullback against New Zealand before playing wing in the second draw against Australia, this time in Sydney.
