Melbourne Rebels sign Puma Lucio Sordoni

Los Pumas prop Lucio Sordoni will continue his playing career in Australia. The 22-year-old will do so in Super Rugby with the Melbourne Rebels. Sordoni and Ignacio Calás join the team for the 2021 season.

2021 will see the Melbourne Rebels competing in the domestic Australian Super Rugby competition and the Trans-Tasman competition involving the New Zealand franchises. Sordoni will thus rub shoulders with players involved in the recent Tri Nations.

Sordoni was on Argentina’s roster for the Tri Nations. He earned his third test cap in the competition, doing so as a replacement against New Zealand in Newcastle.

Sordoni comes from Argentina’s this largest city, Rosario. He is a product of the Atlético de Rosario club and played u20’s for his country before becoming a Jaguar and a Puma.

Australia will also be the home of other Argentine players next season. As noted, he and Ignacio Calás are Melbourne Rebels recruits. Moreover, the Western Force signed four Argentine players. They are scrum-half Tomás Cubelli, fly half Domingo Miotti, tight head prop Santiago Medrano, and flanker Tomás Lezana.

Sordoni’s 2020 cap was as a replacement for Medrano. Now the two young men will have the opportunity of playing Super rugby on opposition teams for Australian franchises.
