Teams from Colombia and Paraguay are to have priority in the 2021 SLAR draft. Los Cafeteros Pro (Colombia) and the Olímpia Lions (Paraguay) will have 15 national players and 15 Argentine players in their respective 30-man rosters.
The player draft is yet to be finalized. Players involved will be UAR contracted players.
The Olímpia Lions had a 32-man roster for the 2020 SLAR competition. 13 of the players were from Argentina. This was a greater number than those from Paraguay. Indeed, there were critics of the roster which contained 10 Paraguayan players. The remainder of the roster were from Fiji, Namibia, New Zealand, South Africa, and Spain.
Los Cafeteros Pro were set to be an exhibition team in the 2020 post season. The global pandemic prevented this possibility. There were, however, Colombians players in the competition. Diver Ceballos, Geovanny Carvajal, and Danny Giraldo were Peñarol (Uruguay) players. Colombian props Carlos Ángulo and Daniel Gutiérrez started for winners Carrasco Polo in last weekend’s Uruguay de Clubes final.
