Santiago Cordero signs new deal to stay at Bordeaux until 2023

Santiago Cordero has re-signed with Bordeaux. His new contract will see him staying at the French club until 2023. The Argentine winger originally joined on a two-year deal in 2019. It saw him moving from the Exeter Chiefs to France. Prior to that he played Super Rugby for Los Jaguares.

Santiago Cordero has scored 12 tries in 21 appearances for Bordeaux. These and other numbers explain why he has been the target of a number of clubs. A return to the Exeter Chiefs out to rivals, the Wasps, were both on the table.

In remaining at Bordeaux the 27-year-old will be one of three Pumas at the club. First, Guido Petti arrived this season from Los Jaguares. Second, Bautista Delguy joined following the Tri Nations; he is set to debut against Toulouse on December 27.

Cordero and Delguy now loom as an all-Argentine wing combination for Bordeaux. The possibility also exists for them to be Argentina’s wingers at RWC 2023 in France. Cordero has 38 caps for Argentina. He debuted as a teenager against England in 2013. He played in three of Argentina’s four test matches in 2020. Among them was the historic win over New Zealand in Sydney.
