South American 2020 Sevens Highlights: Brazil vs Argentina

Brazil recorded an upset win over Argentina on Saturday. The win was just the second time in which Brazil’s men’s team have defeated Los Pumas 7’s. Unlike the 2011 match, this time around the Argentine side was not fielding a development team.

Brazil took its strongest roster to Chile for the South American Sevens. The team is packed of test players and names contracted to Corinthians for the Súper Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR). The Brazilians deserved their win. It was by three tries to two.

Argentina is preparing for the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games. Perhaps Saturday’s loss to Brazil will require a reassessment of strategy and it may even cost players chances at playing in the Olympics.
