San Diego signs Sunwolves prop Hencus van Wyk

The San Diego Legion have secured Sunwolves prop Hencus van Wyk for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. He fills a gap left by the departure of Eagles tighthead Paul Mullen to the Utah Warriors.

van Wyk, 28, is a product of the Blue Bulls in Pretoria, South Africa. He made his senior provincial debut at the age of 19 and won his first Super Rugby cap at 21. A four-season stint with the Sanix Blues in Japan led to a Sunwolves contract, and then an invitation to play for the Barbarians in 2019. He made one start for the Cheetahs in the recent ‘Unlocked’ competition.

With Luatangi Li arriving from Northland, the Legion will welcome two new prop for the 2021 campaign. Returning front rowers include props Faka’osi Pifeleti, Nathan Sylvia, and Aaron Mitchell, and hooker Dean Muir and Peter Malcolm.
