The Toronto Arrows have signed two more props for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. Veteran loosehead Rob Brouwer returns for a third season and there is a new name in tighthead Marc-Antoine Ouellet, who arrives from the Pacific Pride national academy program.
At 38 years old Brouwer is currently the second-oldest player contract in MLR behind only NOLA Gold lock Kane Thompson. The Lindsay, Ontario, native was an unlucky omission from Canada’s Rugby World Cup 2019 squad but returned in fine form to play two games for the Arrows in the shortened 2020 campaign.
This will be Ouellet’s first season as a professional. A 6’4″ (1.92m) physical specimen who tips the scales in the vicinity of 270lbs (123kg), the 25-year-old Québec City native switched to rugby after winning the Vanier Cup with Laval in 2016 as a defensive lineman. He also slotted in at lock on occasion for the Pride but should focus on the front row with Toronto.
The Arrows have now named 34 players for next season with only a small number expected to be added closer to the March kickoff. Other props include loosehead Richie Asiata and tightheads Gastón Cortes, Cole Keith, and Tyler Rowland. Another loosehead, Pat Lynott, is yet to be confirmed for 2021.
