The Western Force have signed Tomás Lezana, Santiago Medrano and Domingo Miotti from Los Jaguares. In doing so the Western Australian Super Rugby franchise will have five Pumas for the 2021 season. Lezana and Medrano, signed two-year contracts with the Western Force and Miotti a one-year deal.
The trio follow the Western Force’s previous recruitment of Tomás Cubelli and Julián Montoya. The scrum-half and hooker will also play Super Rugby for the Western Australian side in 2021.
Santiago Medrano has 21 caps for Argentina. He made his test debut against Wales in June 2018 as a replacement tight head prop. It came on the back of a solid rookie Super Rugby season. He made 30 Super Rugby appearances from 2018-2020.
Tomás Lezana has 46 games for Jaguares. He was a constant in the franchise from 2016-2020. He and Medrano both played at RWC 2019. Lezana has 39 caps, most of which have been in his natural position of flanker, although 11 appearances were at N8. This includes his debut which was a win against France in Paris in November 2014.
Domingo Miotti made his test debut on Saturday against the Wallabies in Sydney. He scored 8 points as a replacement for Nicolás Sánchez. He made his Super Rugby debut in 2019 against the Bulls. Like Sánchez, he comes from the northern Argentine city of Tucumán.
All five of the Western Force’s Argentine legion featured in the 2020 Tri Nations. They are all players who will be in the frame for further international duty in 2021.
Also at the Western Force is Marcel Brache. The USA Eagle has played in Perth since 2014. He made but test debut against Tonga in 2016. His most recent cap was also against the Pacific Islanders. Prior to that he started against Argentina in Kumagaya. Lezana, Medrano, and Montoya were involved in that game for Los Pumas.
