Brive have signed Lucas Paulos. The Top 14 club will be the home of the Pumas second-rower for the remainder of the 2020-2021 season. Paulos has signed as a medical joker. He will arrive at the French club December 16.
Paulos joins Brive from Los Jaguares. The move will see him returning to Europe. The Argentine native moved to Spain at the age of 5. He livd in Spain for more than 10 years and played rugby for Club de Rugby Majadahonda. He was subsequently identified by Mont de Marsan and moved to the French club. After two years he moved to Argentina.
He wanted to be a Puma. Doing so required him returning to Argentina where he played for Olivos in Buenos Aires. He was selected for Los Pumitas and played in the 2018 Junior World Championship.
In 2019 he joined Jaguares. He played two seasons for the Argentine Super Rugby season. Mario Ledesma selected him for the recent Tri Nations. He made his debut against New Zealand and earned his second cap this past Saturday against Australia.
The 22-year-old will now return to Europe to join Brive. In doing so the Jaguares player exodus continues to grow. Paulos was the last second-rower with Super Ruby game time remaining at Jaguares.
Brive Head Coach Jeremy Davidson notes that Paulos already speaks French. He expects a quick integration for the second-rower. Paulos’ arrival means that Brive now have two Argentine players. Uncapped winger Axel Muller has been at the club since 2018.
