Dallas signs South African back row Pikkie de Villiers

The Dallas Jackals have announced the signing of South African loose forward Jo-Hanko ‘Pikkie’ de Villiers for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. Arriving from the Golden Lions, the 24-year-old brings both Varsity Cup with the University of Johannesburg and senior provincial experience.

de Villiers was named ‘Player of the Year’ with the Lions u21 side in 2017, making his senior Currie Cup debut that same year. In 2019 he scored a hat-trick against the Leopards and followed it up with a double opposite the Valke on the following weekend during the SuperSport Challenge.

The first choice back row for Dallas now looks likely to be ex-Pumas Sevens starter Conrado Roura and Namibia international Wian Conradie on the flanks with de Villiers at his preferred No8 position. Also signed up are Collegiate All-American draft picks Bronson Teles and Tommy Clark.
