Eagles prop Paddy Ryan returns to Austin

US Eagles prop Paddy Ryan will return to Austin for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. Now just days away from his 30th birthday, the tighthead specialist departs Rugby United New York after two seasons to join the Gilgronis having played under their original moniker – the Elite – during the 2018 campaign.

Ryan was part of Gary Gold’s extended squad prior to Rugby World Cup 2019 but in the end narrowly missed out on selection for Japan. He was in strong form during the shortened 2020 season, starting four of five games for RUNY. Most recently Ryan competed at the World Tens Series though his tournament was cut short by a leg injury.

Austin now have two players on the Eagles radar competing for the No3 shirt, with Ryan joining Mason Pedersen. Versatile front row Brendan Rams also covers tighthead though he was predominantly seen at hooker this past season. Jamie Mackintosh and LaRome White both return on the loosehead side.
