Cubelli ruled out of Tri Nations finale vs Australia

Tomás Cubelli will not play again in 2020. The first choice Pumas scrum half missed today’s loss against New Zealand and last weekend’s draw against Australia. He has now been ruled out of next Saturday’s Tri Nations finale.

Cubelli is the second Puma to be ruled out of the remainder of the Tri Nations. Winger Juan Imhoff started in the first and second match. He left the field last week in the opening 15 minute with a torn hamstring. He will fly back to France to his club, Racing 92 on Sunday.

Ramiro Moyano replaced Imhoff in today’s match. Last weekend he was replaced by Emiliano Boffelli. Boffelli start today at fullback. In all there are eight players on the roster covering wing: Emiliano Boffelli, Sebastián Cancelliere, Santiago Carreras, Lucio Cinti, Santiago Cordero, Bautista Delguy, Juan Imhoff, Ramiro Moyano.

The loss of Cubelli is different to that of Imhoff. There are officially two players as cover: Gonzalo Bertranou, and Felipe Ezcurra. A third option does nonetheless exist; Cancelliere may be considered as cover for the position.

Cancelliere has ten caps for Argentina. All were playing on the wing. He has also been used as a wing for Los Jaguares in Super Rugby. His last cap was against South Africa prior to RWC 2019.
