New England signs young Otago flyhalf Harrison Boyle

The New England Free Jacks have announced the signing of Otago flyhalf Harrison Boyle for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. It’s a homecoming of sorts for the 20-year-old, who was born in Boston before his family returned to New Zealand where he was raised.

Boyle developed in the Wellington age-grade system before moving to Dunedin to attend the University of Otago. He was part of the New Zealand u20 training camp earlier this year in preparation for the cancelled World Rugby u20 Championship. Last month Boyle made his Mitre 10 Cup debut for the Razorbacks as a replacement against Northland.

Standing a lofty 6’4″ (1.94m), Boyle brings unique physicality to the flyhalf position and is also capable of playing fullback. The rangy runner joins US Eagles cap Tadgh Leader as primary options at the No10 shirt for the 2021 season, with Boyle taking the place of Timothée Guillimin who has returned to France.
