Juan Imhoff out of Tri Nations with torn hamstring

Juan Imhoff is out of the remainder of the Tri Nations. The Argentine winger was injured in the first half against Australia on Saturday. The medical staff have confirmed that he suffered a torn hamstring in the match.

Imhoff made his return to Los Pumas a a long wait. He started in the historic win over New Zealand. The match was hist first cap since RWC 2015. His recall saw him starting together with Bautista Delguy and Santiago Carreras in the back-three.

Los Pumas have two remaining matches in the Tri Nations. Changes are expected for game three. Mario Ledesma had an altered formation in training today. There were ten changes in all. Imhoff’s non-availability saw Ramiro Moyano training on the left wing. He joined Santiago Cordero and Emiliano Boffelli in the back-three.

Additional changes saw Mayco Vivas, and Santiago Medrano training as the starting props; Lucas Paulos at lock; Facundo Isa at N8; Felipe Ezcurra at scrum-half; and Jerónimo de la Fuente and Juan Cruz Mallia in the mid-field.

The one change from game one to game two was a late one. It saw Tomás Cubelli dropping out of the team. His spot went to Gonzalo Bertranou; Ezcurra was on the bench.

Cubelli may yet be able to play again in the competition. Imhoff will not be able to do so. With his tournament over, Imhoff’s nest rugby match will be for his Top 14 club, Racing 92.
