Chile to host 2020 South American Sevens in December

Chile is to host the 2020 South American Sevens in December, Sudamérica Rugby has confirmed. The competition will feature Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and Chile.

Edit: Colombia and Paraguay will not participate due to travel issues.

The two-day tournament will take place on Saturday, December 12 and Sunday, December 13. It will be played at the Estadio Elías Figueroa in Valparaíso. It is to be the third, and final, competition held during the COVID-19 ravaged year of 2020.

The South American Four Nations was played in October. It saw men’s teams from the same four countries competing in Montevideo. The Argentina XV were winners, while the Chile XV performed notably in beating both the Brazil XV and the Uruguay XV.

The South American Sevens will give the players and teams much needed game time. Three of the four teams have their eyes on the Tokyo 2021 Olympics. Argentina qualified for the Tokyo Olympics while both Brazil and Chile are to compete in a repechage tournament; the dates and venue are yet to be finalized.
