30-man Brazilian roster depart to tour Portugal

Brazil will tour Portugal this month. A 30-man roster has been named for the two match tour. Os Tupis are to fly from São Paulo to Portugal on Sunday. The two match series will see matches taking place in Lisbon on November 21 and 28. The matches will be capped with rankings on the line.

Both Portugal and Brazil will use the series as preparations for the Rugby World Cup 2023 qualifiers. Portugal is seeking to replicate what happened the last time France hosted a RWC. Portugal qualified for the competition. It was Os Lobos only appearance in tournament history. Brazil is yet to qualify for a RWC.

Portugal were due to host Fiji this month. The match was called-off due to COVID-19. Unfortunately for the Flying Fijians, their match against France this weekend has also been called-off. Despite the disruptions, Brazil’s tour to Portugal is going ahead.

The tour will be Brazil’s final international duty of 2020. Last month Os Tupis competed in the 2020 South American 4 Nations. The competition involved Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Uruguay. The matches were uncapped due to the teams playing as the Argentina XV, Brazil XV, Chile XV, and Uruguay XV. Brazil lost all four of their matches.

As was the case in the South American 4 Nations, Brazil’s players are following tight protocols before Sunday’s flight.
