The LA Giltinis have announced their first official player signing for their maiden campaign in Major League Rugby. Iona College center Watson Filikitonga has put pen-to-paper for the 2021 season after being selected 14th overall in the inaugural MLR Collegiate Draft.
Filikitonga was a high school football standout before making the switch to rugby. It was a natural transition with family influence. The 23-year-old hails from San Mateo and is the younger brother of USA international Lemoto Filikitonga.
LA’s second draft pick, Stephen McLeish, has since been traded to the NOLA Gold. The Giltinis say they intend to release the rest of their roster over the next several weeks concluding on Christmas Day.
