Tierney signs to stay at Castres until 2024

Matt Tierney has signed to stay at Castres until 2024. The Canadian joined the club in 2019 from Pau. The 24-year-old has been in France since 2016. He joined the Pau academy from his native Ontario.

Tierney has 22 caps for Canada. He made his debut against Russia in 2016 as a replacement. His first start was against Chile in the 2017 Americas Rugby Championship. He went on to start in two of Canada’s three RWC Repechage matches. He was a replacement against Kenya in the remaining match. Canada were unbeaten in the tournament against Kenya, Germany, and Hong Kong.

Tierney was on Canada’s roster for RWC 2019 itself. He played against South Africa in Kobe, and Italy in Fukuoka. He was set to also against Namibia. The pool match was cancelled for safety reasons due to Typhoon Hagibis.

Canada was captained by Tyler Ardron. The former Super Rugby player left the Chiefs to continue his career in France. He is now playing together with Tierney at Castres.
