Santiago Arata will make his first start for Castres on Saturday. The ace Uruguayan sacrum-half will start against Toulouse. He has been named in the halves together with Argentine Benjamín Urdapilleta. Both players featured at RWC 2019.
Arata and Urdapilleta will be joined by two others from the Americas. Canadian captain Tyler Ardron will start at N8 and Matt Tierney has been named on the bench. Both Canadians also played at RWC 2019 and both have previously played against Arata in test matches.
Arata joined Castres this season. His prior professional rugby activities include Major League Rugby (MLR) and the Super Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR). Arata played for the Houston SaberCats in 2019 and for Peñarol in 2020.
The 24-year-old was arguably Uruguay’s most notable product over the previous RWC cycle. He made his test debut in the 2016 Americas Rugby Championship (ARC). He overtook Agustín Ormaechea to be the starting Uruguayan number 9. In quick time he has earned 43 caps. The four most recent caps were at RWC 2019.
