Rugby ATL signs South African scrumhalf Rowan Gouws

Rugby ATL have signed scrumhalf Rowan Gouws to a two-year deal through the 2022 Major League Rugby season. The 25-year-old South African joins incumbent starter Duncan van Schalkwyk as a starting option in 2021, with Junior All-American Eamonn Matthews also a likely returnee.

Gouws graduated through the Sharks age-grade system and represented the KwaZulu-Natal side in the SuperSport Challenge. He then switched to Eastern Province and played for the Southern Kings during the 2017-18 Guinness Pro 14 season.

In 2019 Gouws signed with the Asia Pacific Dragons of Global Rapid Rugby, and is currently representing the team at the World Tens Series in Bermuda. He also spent the 2019 Mitre 10 Cup campaign playing for Otago. Gouws reunites with former Kings teammate Kurt Coleman at ATL.
