Japan move off as Robbie Petzer signs for Dallas Jackals

Robbie Petzer’s move to Japan has been cancelled. The ex-Raptors star signed for Tokyo Gas of the Top East League earlier this year, but travel restrictions due to the pandemic has thrown a wrench in those plans. He will instead stay in Major League Rugby having agreed a deal with the Dallas Jackals.

In his two seasons with the Raptors the South African import made a big impression. Petzer played 19 matches and scored 106 points including an MLR single-game record 34 against the Utah Warriors in May 2019. He has primarily been used as an inside center but can also play flyhalf or fullback.

The 24-year-old is the latest to make the move from Colorado to Texas. Also signed by Dallas to date are front rowers Kelepi Fifita and Chad Gough, second row Kody O’Neil, scrumhalf Carlo de Nysschen, and backs Chad London, Campbell Johnstone, and Ryan James.
