The LA Giltinis have announced the additions of Alex Corbisiero and Marc Carter to their coaching staff for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. They follow confirmation of Adam Freier as General Manager, with Darren Coleman and Stephen Hoiles previously unveiled as Head and Assistant Coach respectively.
Corbisiero will act as a specialist Scrum Coach for the expansion side. The 32-year-old won 20 caps for England and started two tests for the British & Irish Lions on their 2013 tour to Australia before ending his career due to injury in January 2016. He has most recently been working as a media pundit for NBC Sports while recovering from testicular cancer.
Carter has been hired as the team’s lead Performance Analyst, a role he has filled with the Hong Kong RFU for the past three years. He has previously worked with the Welsh Rugby Union and the Scarlets in the Guinness Pro 14.
The deal is a co-agreement with Rugby Canada that will see Carter working with the National Senior Men’s team during the international season. It’s the second such arrangement by Rugby Canada with an MLR side, with the Toronto Arrows using Rob Howley as a consultant for the 2021 season.
The Giltinis have also added Michael Stephen as the club’s Head of Performance. A strength & conditioning expert, Stephen comes highly regarded from Australia where he has worked with the Wallabies Sevens and age-grade programs, and more recently with the Waratahs in Super Rugby.
