Uruguay gets triple boost for home series against Spain

Uruguay is to get a boost for the upcoming home series against Spain. Three RWC 2019 players will join the roster. Their injection comes at the right time as the Uruguayans look to rebound from a disappointing home campaign in the South American 4 Nations.

The Uruguay XV lost against the Chile XV and the Argentina XV. The former result was an upset. The latter was far greater than that of the RWC 2019 pool match against Wales. This adds importance to the upcoming series against Spain.

Uruguay and Spain are both preparing for the RWC 2023 qualifiers. The former now knows that it will be up against a much improved Chile. Uruguay’s roster to face Los Leones has been boosted by the inclusion of hooker Facundo Gattas, flanker Manuel Ardao, and fullback Gastón Mieres.

Gattas, Ardao and Mieres will benefit the team. Their inclusion brings the roster closer to full strength. The team continues to miss a number of important players. Among them are foreign-based forwards Germán Kessler, Franco Lamanna, Manuel Leindekar, and Mateo Sanguinetti; and backs Santiago Arata, Felipe Berchesi, and Agustín Ormaechea. Others such as center Juan Manuel Cat and lock Ignacio Dotti are injured.

Uruguay will face Spain in two matches. The games are to be played at the Estadio Charrúa in Montevideo on Sunday, November 1 and Friday, November 6. They will be played behind closed doors. The matches will be broadcast live on the Sudamérica Rugby App.
